SID (67): The man who woke up the Buddha.

DIANE (65): His wife. Works at the family business; is on various nonprofit boards; full-time job dealing with Sid.

Bieça: Their Spanish Water Dog.

Abbey (43): Sid & Di’s eldest. School teacher…when you’re around her you want to obey the rules, even if you don’t know what they are.
Richie-not-so-Rich: Her ex-husband. Impossible to deal with. Con artist but not all that good at it.
Malcolm: Her current boyfriend.
- Willy (13): Abbey & Richie’s only child. Totally internalizes his feelings about Sid’s illness.

Melissa (41): Sid & Di’s middle child. Likes to vamp. Been married to Chucky for almost 20 years.
Chucky: Her husband. Had nervous breakdown in his thirties and now is happy all the time.
- Courtney (19): Her oldest. Big sister to all the grandchildren.
- “Sistah” (19): Courtney’s best friend; virtual family member. Ragamuffin. Wears only vintage clothes.
- Junior (15): Cares mostly about football and girls. Often annoyed by his little sister.
- Zoey (12): Precocious youngest child
Jake: (40): Sid & Di’s Youngest child A younger version of Sid.
Carolyn: His wife. Treats Sid like the father she never had (died when she was little). Very sexy but doesn’t wear it on her sleeve.
Terry: Carolyn’s know-it-all brother-in-law.
- Casper (8): Their only child. He worships Sid and is the only person who thinks his visitations make perfect sense.'

Marcus (63): Sid’s long-time friend and sidekick

Leila (64): His wife

Samantha (24) Their daughter

Kesey (63): Marcus’s best friend from college. American “Zen Master”

Julia (60): Marcus’s sister; small, wiry, and intense; has strangely mixed feelings about Sid.
